This is a portal for adults and students in the higher grade levels. To search for a subject, use Boolean keyword search. The sites that Alta Vista will fine tend to be geared toward the educator.
This is the children's version of Ask Jeeves. Students may search for a subject by using an English question (What sites would tell me about dinosaurs?). Ask Jeeves for Kids would then search other search engines and give the results. The search tends to be slower than other search engines but worth the wait. The site also has a link for teachers. This site has become more of a portal giving the user a number of services.
This search engine is apart of Yahoo. It is also an adult search engine. Searching is easy. Many sites are appropriate; however, some do go to college and university research.
HotBot This is an adult search engine which is directory driven. You can also type a keyword to begin a search.
This is a search engine for kids by librarians. It is directory driven. You may also search by letter and Boolean key words.
This portal offers many services including a search engine. It has a directory for easy search as well as keyword search. Unlike AltaVista, Yahoo will find all of the sites for a subject requested. Some of these could be very technical in nature. You could come up with 10's of thousands as your result as opposed to hundreds or thousands.
This is a great search engine for students from K through 12. It is directory driven. You may also use Boolean search (Keyword search).
